SvMet improves quality of high carbon grades at DEACERO

During 2016~2017 SvMet Engineering introduce new product and process engineering changes to the  Celaya plant of DEACERO, Mexico.  The project comprise a new product for bead wire {1082BWS} and the improvement of existing 1080CrV. During a first stage SvMet introduce new product specifications as well as new mechanical properties strategies such as micro-hardness measurements for rods. Also new cooling schedules at the rolling mill were introduced. An example of new mechanical properties for the 1082BWS intended for bead wire is shown below.

To achieve the above  SvMet introduced its ECOSIFC and CASTEV processes. As it is well known one of the key technologies in order to achieve a consistent target of properties without wire breakage is the use of low superheat during casting of billets/blooms. In the figure below the achieved superheats for those heats intended for bead wire are shown. This is only possible by using the correct additions during  tapping of EAF and subsequent slag treatment at LF. This is done by using the ECOSIFC process which determines additions for tapping and LF.
